Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Cherry Clegg

Mary Elizabeth Cherry Clegg was born on November 28, 1935 in Hoke County, North Carolina to the late Daniel and Eliza Jane Cherry.  On September 20, 2021, Mary gained her wings to be with her Heavenly Father and was reunited with her husband James Clegg, daughter Michele Cherry Ricoma, brothers John Cherry, Raymond Cherry, Edward Cherry, Carl Cherry, David Cherry, “Baby C” Cherry, and sisters Alberta Cherry, Myrtle Jane Worthy, Rosa Taylor, Ruth Calloway, Lucille Faulk, granddaughter Emerald Ragbir, and grandson Eric Clegg.

Mary gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a dedicated servant to the Lord in word and deed. Throughout her life, she was very involved in her church; she served as an Honorary Deaconess, sang in the choir, participated in many fund-raising events, and did anything she could to support her church. Mary was employed by Procter Silex for 20 years, where she retired in August 1992. Throughout her years, she had many passions that she remained fully dedicated to, such as her love for the Lord, family, flowers, gardening, yard sales, gospel music, cooking large and hearty meals, her home, and watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies. Mary never met a stranger and always welcomed everyone into her home with open arms. She treated everyone with love and as a member of her family.

Mary leaves behind many that love and adore her including four sons, Larry Cherry of Denver, CO, Michael Cherry of Carthage, NC, Johnny Clegg of Sanford, NC, and Robert (Mildred) Clegg of Indianapolis, IN.  Two daughters, Cathy Clegg and Sandra Clegg of Carthage, NC, one sister Beatrice Perez of Vass, NC and one brother Clarence (Lois) Cherry of Stamford, CT.  Mary is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends near and far.
