Melvin “Glenn” Nelson, Jr., 51, of Southern Pines, passed peacefully at the First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

Born in Greenville, NC on Feb. 12, 1969, he was the son of Melvin G. and Mary H. Nelson. Glenn was raised in Foxfire Village and was a graduate of Pinecrest High School, class of 1987.  From there, he attended UNC at Wilmington on a golf scholarship where he divided his time between earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and being a competitive member of the golf team. After college, Glenn took a position as a teaching pro at Landfall Country Club in Wilmington, NC. In 1996, Glenn decided to join his father’s company at East Carolina Insurance, which he managed until 1999 when he moved back home to Moore County to manage The Insurance Center of Southern Pines. His time in Wilmington gave him a love of the beach so he bought a house and boat on Oak Island where he spent most of his free time with his beloved dog, Bosco.

Glenn is survived by his parents Melvin and Mary Nelson. He was the loving brother of Hope Nelson Greene, husband Paul, and Chad M. Nelson. Glenn was the uncle of Nelson Womack, Cooper Nelson and Jordan Nelson.  He is also survived by his grandfather Willie Hathaway and many caring aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and of course his best friend, his chocolate lab Bosco.
