Obituary for Michael David Powers

Michael David Powers, age 61, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 10, 2023, at home.

Mike was employed for many years at the Pinehurst Resort in golf course maintenance as the head mechanic. He also loved working with his Uncle George at Denning Paving in his spare time. Anyone who knew Mike knew he was a Harley Davidson man and loved tinkering with models. He enjoyed taking time and tinkering with models, whether it was putting them together or painting them. He was also a fan of NASCAR and NC State. When he was feeling good and the weather was just right, he was known to take some time to fish and listen to his music. Mike was the number one supporter of his son Matt’s musical journey; he was always there to support Matt and the other members of the band. Mike also took the time to support both of his stepchildren in any way he could, whether it was going to watch Trint play football or encouraging Georgia with her artwork and drawings. Mike also shared a love of music and cars with his son Brandon.

Preceded in death by his parents Charlie David Powers and Carolyn Sue Denning Powers.

Survived by his wife, Alyson Rene Faulkner; two sons, Matthew David Powers and his fiancé Jill, Michael Brandon Stutts and his wife Samantha; a step-daughter, Georgina Faulkner and a step-son Trint Faulkner. As well as five grandchildren: Kaylee, Myles, Phoenix, Sparrow, and Meadow.

In addition, he is survived by his sister Barbara Powers Rhoads and her husband Greg Rhoads of Florida; his Uncle Johnny Denning of Carthage and Aunt Louise Denning of Carthage; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Red Branch Baptist Church on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Jeff Mitchell officiating. Visitation begins at 1 pm prior to service and the family will meet in the fellowship hall after service.
