Moses D. McMillon, 83, of Southern Pines departed this life on Monday, January 11, 2021. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Southern Pines interment will follow the service. Viewing and visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021, at Purcell Funeral Home, Southern Pines.
Moses David McMillon was born July 3, 1937, in Dunn, North Carolina to the late Lois and James McMillon.
He was raised in Lakeview, North Carolina where he received his education at Vass Elementary and Vass/Lakeview High School. Over the years he developed a variety of skills. At Weymouth Woods, he worked as a ground’s keeper. He worked in construction assisting with building the Southern Pines Housing Authority apartments. At Diamondhead, he was a brick mason and helped to build Swimming Pools. Moses also developed his skills as a Landscaper when he worked at Mid Pines Resort and Pine Needles Resorts. In his later years, he was a general mechanic. He serviced many in the community with his home “fix-it” shop.
On March 22, 1962, Moses married Mildred Locklear to this union they had two children. They were married for 58 years.
Left to cherish his memories: his wife Mildred; children, Bonita McMillon of the home, and Dorothy McMillon of Aberdeen, NC; Sandra Rogers (James) of Vass, NC and Ernest Stephenson (LaToya) of Lincolnton, NC; grandchildren, Yakira McMillon, Zavian McMillon, Tareeyah McMillon, Timarius McMillon, Ta’Mya Burch, Jordan Walkers, Crystal Walker, and James Rogers; five great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Eula McMillan; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services are entrusted to Purcell Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
