Ruth McIntosh Hughes, age 83, of Southern Pines, NC; passed away on Jun 25, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines with the Rev. Karen Allen officiating. The family will have a private burial in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery prior to the Memorial Service.
Ruth was born on September 19, 1935 in Vass, NC to the late John Robert and Ella Estelle McIntosh. She graduated high school from Vass-Lakeview School in 1955. She enjoyed working with Moore County Schools for over 40 years, especially her time working for School Superintendent Robert E. Lee at the Central Office and with Mr. Morrison and Mr. Moore at Aberdeen Middle School. She enjoyed reading, gardening, looking for sand dollars at the beach, listening to the birds sing early in the morning and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Rollow Hershel Hughes, daughters Lori Mottesheard (Andy) and Lisa Hughes, grandchildren Katelyn and Matthew Mottesheard, sister Stelle Lichner, brother-in-law Tommie Garner, niece Pam Whitesell and great-niece Brittany Biles.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister Betty Garner.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 28, 2019 from 6:00-8:00pm at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines, NC.
