It is with great sadness that the family of Sandra Morris announces her sudden and unexpected passing after a short illness, on Friday, September 27 at the age of 74 with her family by her side.

She was born April 13, 1945, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to Joseph Edgar Wright and Myra Etta Aylward Wright.

Sandra could and did accomplish anything she set her mind to. After attending Pawtucket high school she went on to attend Northeastern University in Boston Massachusetts on a full scholarship and earned a degree as a Radiology Technologist.  She then went on to attend Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine earning a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.  She was a public health nurse for the Passamaquoddy Indian tribe in Maine for a short period of time. Her career spanned many years working as a nurse in both Rhode Island and North Carolina, specializing in the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit. She also served as Director of Nursing for both Jefferson Pilot and First Carolina Care. She was a talented and superb nurse.

Sandra was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. As funny as she was, she always told you the truth, whether you liked it or not. She had boundless energy and loved being active.

Aside from her love of nursing, Sandra enjoyed traveling and did so frequently. She traveled with her loving family, but found the greatest joy, traveling with her partner, Richard “Dick” DeVoss.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Todd Morris and husband K. E. Khoury of Omaha, Nebraska and Tracy Lynn Morris Shaw and husband Gary Shaw of Asheboro, NC , her wonderful and loving partner Dick DeVoss of West End, NC and far too many friends to name as well as her  furry companions Grayson, Hoover and Pearl. The family would like to give a special thank you to Brenda Turbyfill and Barbara and Scott Adcock for their guidance and friendship.

Sandra did not want a formal service and the family has decided that a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines are handling her final requests.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the animal welfare organization of your choice in Sandra’s name.
