Walter Michael Lomac passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 in Southern Pines, NC.

Walter was born on September 25, 1926 in Portland, ME. He graduated from Portland High School in 1944, enlisted and served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, he attended the University of Maine, graduating Cum Laude in 1951. While attending the University, he was elected to the following scholastic honor societies: Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Su Sigma and the Scabbard & Blade. He was also designated a Distinguished Military Graduate. He joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1952. His CIA career was devoted primarily to Counter Intelligence work targeted against the Soviet Union and its Satellites. His foreign assignments took him on extended tours to Berlin, Frankfurt, Bonn, Nairobi and Beirut. He was awarded the Intelligence Medal of Merit for demonstrating conspicuous courage and extraordinary professional integrity, under extreme pressure and duress, in order to preserve and protect an asset of the utmost value to the Agency and the United States; the Career Intelligence Medal, in recognition of his exceptional achievement during his service with the CIA; the Certificate of Exceptional Service for effective performance under conditions of hazard or hardship.

He retired from the CIA in 1979 but continued his association with the Agency as a consultant and private contractor for the Agency’s Counter Intelligence Staff. He moved to Pinehurst in 1982 and continued his association with the Agency until 1986, at which time he fully retired.

Walter is survived by his two sons: Jay Lomac of Pinehurst, NC and Scott Lomac of Washington, DC; sister, Helena Lomac of Aberdeen, NC; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Veronica Lomac; his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Tracy Lomac; his second wife, Zenaida “Sunny” Ponce Lomac; his brothers: Joseph M. Lomac, John M. Lomac and William J. Lomac.
