William Joseph Croteau, 96, of Seven Lakes, NC passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his residence.   

Bill was born October 11, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to the late William Joseph Croteau and Merle Taylor Croteau.  He was a WWII purple heart veteran who served in the U.S. Army.  He was in the 12th Armored Division, 152nd Armored Calvary Signal Company at Camp Custer in 1942.  He also served as President of Detroit Typographical Union # 18.  He moved from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1985 after retirement to Seven Lakes to enjoy one of his favorite past-times, golf.  He also enjoyed roller skating, basketball and football.  He was a founding member of Christ Community Church. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife; Betty Croteau; second wife; Evelyn Croteau; a daughter Susan Vershure; a son; William J. Croteau, and two sisters.  

He is survived by four children; Gloria Croteau, Beth Whitfield (Chuck), Rick Vershure (Maureen), Barbara Machiniak (Richard); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in William’s name be made to First Health Hospice & Palliative Care, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst. NC 28374 or Christ Community Church, 220 Campground Road, West End, NC 27376
