Zona Gayle Rhodes Willis, 77, passed away at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst on Friday January 4th, 2019.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, January 9th at 2:30 P.M. at the Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Southern Pines. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:30.

Zona was the born December 17th, 1941; the only child of the late Clarence Alcheron and Georgia Watson Rhodes. She was a graduate of Kenly High School, where she played for the school’s basketball team. Zona formally lived in Raleigh and Whiteville before moving to Pinehurst in the early 2000s. She enjoyed various activities including spending time with family and friends, golfing, and dancing. Zona was also an active part of the Pinehurst community including being a member of the Pinehurst Country Club and the Silver Foils

Zona is survived by her five children: Donna Willis Chapman, Rodney Preston Willis, Garreth Wade Willis, David Lee Burrill and Alana Bess Willis. She was the grandmother of: Rachel Chapman Hill (Corey), Stephen Thomas Chapman, Anna Grace Chapman, Sarah Lynette Chapman and Matthew Bryan Chapman. She is also survived by a great – grandchild, Elliott Allen Hill and Ada Christine Hill, due Feb. 15th, 2019.
