James Earl Garner, 90, a lifelong Moore County resident, passed away on Christmas Eve, 2017 at the Tara Plantation in Carthage.

His funeral will be held at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2237 Camp Easter Rd. Southern Pines, on Wed. Dec. 27th at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:00 – 2:00. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Carthage on October 12th, 1927 he was the son of the late Hughie and Shula Garner. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Mabel, Paul, Fred, Alma and Irene. James had served in the U.S. Army and later worked as a bridge inspector for the NCDOT. He was a long time member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Southern Pines.

James is survived by his loving wife Nellie Magdeline Mabry Garner. He was the caring father of Dwight Lee Garner, wife Patricia, of Lexington, James Mark Garner, wife Tracey, of Rocky Point, and Gail Garner Flinchum, husband Gerald, of Thomasville. He is survived by brothers Larry, Darrell and Robert Garner and sister Judy Dudley. He is also survived by four cherished granddaughters and ten great-grandchildren.
