Nancy Ray Currie Blue, 93, of Jackson Springs, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017.  It was her wish to live out her days in the house built by her father where she was born and enjoyed many wonderful years.  Thanks be to God for granting her wish.

Nancy Ray was born April 28, 1924 as the second daughter of Joseph Ernest and Jeanette Seawell Currie.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Elmer James Blue, her grandson, Matt Houston Barnes, and her sister, Sarah Ruth Thompson.

She is survived by daughter Judy Boroughs (Tommy), daughter Jenny Barnes (Ronnie), and son Jim Blue, all of Jackson Springs.  Also, surviving are her grandchildren; Alison Boroughs Cole, Kyle Barnes (Niki), Emily Boroughs, and Lindsey Boroughs.  Mrs. Blue has one surviving brother, Joseph Currie (Nancy) of Seven Lakes and many dear nieces and nephews.

She began her schooling at the Jackson Springs School and graduated in 1940 from West End School as valedictorian of her class.  Nancy Ray attended Women’s College (now UNC-G) in Greensboro and graduated in 1944 with a degree in Business Administration.  After holding several jobs, she ended her career as Jackson Springs Post Master for 20 years serving her friends and neighbors.

She was a lifelong member of Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, was organist and choir director, held many offices in Presbyterian Women, and served as an elder of the church.  Throughout her life, nothing was more important than her family and serving God through her many acts of kindness to other people

Music was a big part of Nancy Ray’s life and ministry.  She had a song for every season.  One of her favorite hymns was “Others” and this became the theme song of her life.  She will be remembered and cherished as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to so many.

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church.  Visitation will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
