One man had to be airlifted to a trauma center after a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Page Road and Hwy 15-501.
The accident happened at 2:19 pm Wednesday afternoon, and it involved one vehicle, a Hyundai Santa Fe, that had overturned with extensive damage. The driver of this vehicle was seriously injured and was transported to a landing zone at the athletic field behind Pinehurst Fire Department where a helicopter transported the patient to a trauma center for treatment.
The occupants of the other two vehicles were not transported to the hospital. It was reported that a Silverado pickup truck was also involved, but it had left the scene.
The accident completely shut down 15-501 for a short time. Later, southbound traffic was diverted down Page Rd but northbound remained closed for an extended period of time.
Responding to the scene were the Pinehurst Fire Department, Moore COunty EMS, and the Pinehurst Police Department.
Pinehurst Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
