One camper injured after car strikes parked RV

An otherwise quiet Saturday afternoon for a couple staying at Farm Pond Campground in Carthage was abruptly interrupted when the rear end of a Buick LaCrosse came crashing through their RV.

Around 5 p.m., authorities received a call alerting them to a vehicle that had crashed into an RV off Union Church Road. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the vehicle had veered entirely from the road and smashed into a parked RV stationed at the campground.

According to authorities on the scene, the driver of the Buick claims to have lost control of his vehicle, crossed the front of the campground, spun, and proceeded to crash rear-end-first into the RV.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, escaped unscathed, and declined treatment from EMS. A woman from within the RV was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, but her condition was stable, and her reported injuries were nonlife threatening.

Good Samaritans staying at the campground stepped in to help with covering the damaged RV with tarps to protect it from any possible inclement weather. First responders assisted in covering the RV and cleaning up debris from the wreckage.

One nearby camper noted the wreck made “an awful lot of noise,” and that they’d “never seen anything like this before.”

Responding to the scene were the Carthage Police Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
