O'Neal new head upper school

The O’Neal School announced Matthew Peal will be its next head of upper school.  Mr. Peal is currently director of student life and director of summer and auxiliary programs at St. Andrew’s School in Barrington, RI.

His tenure at O’Neal will begin on July 1 for the 2021-2022 academic year.  Matthew Jacobs, current head of upper school, has been named the next head of school at Wayne Country Day School in Goldsboro.

Directly after graduating from the University of Georgia, Mr. Peal started his career in education at The O’Neal School as a history teacher and baseball coach. Following O’Neal, he earned his master’s degree from Columbia University in New York.  Mr. Peal served as teacher, coach, and class dean at The Benjamin School in West Palm Beach, FL, and teacher, coach, and director of operations at Darlington School in Rome, GA, before joining St. Andrew’s School.

“We are honored to have Matt return to where he started his teaching career,” says Head of School John Elmore. “He brings with him wisdom and experience from his journey in education with a focus on building positive relationships among students, faculty and parents.  Matt strives to build a school culture that values joy, respect and accountability.”
