On the heels of the varsity boys’ golf team winning their second consecutive state championship on Tuesday, May 14, the varsity boys’ tennis team clinched a state title of their own on Saturday, May 19 at Salem Academy. The boys won the state championship in fine fashion sealing the deal against the #1 seed Wayne Country Day with a 5-0 score.

This season has seen the team undefeated in conference play, rendering the conference (Tri-TAC) championship. Sam Henry, team captain and undefeated in singles and doubles, was named All Conference Player of the Year. Marshall Landry, George Casey and Alan Gutschmit also received All Conference honors

Sam Henry was also named State Player of the Year and Marshall Landry also received All State honors.

“We started the season with a goal of being state champions,” says Head Coach Koley Keel. “These guys did everything I asked of them to attain team and individual goals. State championships and life successes don’t just grow on trees or get bought at Amazon. It takes effort, character and heart. This team has all of these qualities, and I am proud to be their coach.”

This is the first state championship win for O’Neal Boys Tennis in Division III (as defined by NCISAA).
