Overnight fire devours Vass home

A Vass home was completely destroyed in an overnight fire. By the time first responders received a call alerting them to the fire at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, the property was already beyond salvaging.

First responders were dispatched to a structure fire in the 700 block of Furr Road, but not much remained of what had once been a house when authorities arrived on scene.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue respond to a structure fire on Furr Road in Vass on Friday, June 17.

Overnight, the structure had been reduced to little more than smoking rubble. Firefighters worked to put out what remained of the flames until there was no further threat.

According to Cypress Pointe Fire Chief Mike Cameron, the last time someone was on the property was around 8:00 p.m. just before the storms rolled in for the evening. The house was unoccupied but had power, as the property owner’s plan was to clean the house out before listing it for sale.

The property, which contains several out-buildings and is heavily forested, is currently being cleared of debris and waste. The fire did not spread to any additional buildings or the nearby woods, and no one was harmed. The main house, however, was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time by the Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
