Pair facing drug charges after traffic stop in Eagle Springs

Two people were placed at the Moore County Detention Center under $2,500 secured bonds after being arrested on drug charges, announced Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a news statement.

“On August 2, 2022, Deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop in the 100 block of Sawgrass Road in Eagle Springs,” said Fields. “During the traffic stop, Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. As a result of the search, Deputies located methamphetamine, marijuana, suboxone, items of drug paraphernalia, and items of marijuana paraphernalia.”

Arrested were Kane Avonce, 28, of Carthage and Melissa Callihan, 28, of Bennett.

Avonce is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana up to ½ ounce, simple possession of schedule III controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. 

Avonce also had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

Callihan was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Callihan also had an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor probation violation.

Both suspects are due in court on Aug. 25 and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
