One person was killed after their car crashed and caught fire on New Years Day.

The driver was traveling on N.C. 24/27, outside of Robbins, Tuesday around 5:30 a.m., when their 2006 Honda Pilot ran off the right side of the road striking a tree. The car burst into flames trapping the victim inside the burning vehicle.

Another driver came upon the crash, called 911, and attempted to free the victim from the fiery wreckage.

Highway Patrol advised the car was not from the area.
