Pickup crashes into tree near Carthage

A man avoided serious injury after crashing his truck into a tree just outside Carthage Monday afternoon. Emergency units were dispatched to the 1200 block of Vass-Carthage Road around 4:30 p.m. for a single vehicle that had run off the roadway into the woods.

A member of Moore County Public Safety was traveling home when he came upon the accident and immediately called it in to dispatch.

The driver was traveling east on Vass-Carthage Road when he lost control of his Chevrolet S10 pickup and ran off the opposite side of the road striking a small group of trees head-on. There was heavy damage to the front end of the truck.

The driver was the only occupant and had minor injuries.

One lane was shut down for a brief period while crews worked the scene.

Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the accident.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol.
