Pinehurst man gets 38-56 years for child sex crimes

A joint investigation has yielded the arrest of a 47-year-old Pinehurst man accused of multiple child sex crimes, according to a statement by Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields.

Terry Hardin is behind bars on a $750,000 secured bond on charges of two counts of statutory rape of a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.

“On May 16, 2022 the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sex offense in the Pinebluff area which was revealed during a Pinehurst Police Department investigation into similar incidents within the city limits of Pinehurst,” said Fields in a news advisory.

According to information from the Moore County Detention Center, the offense dates for the two counts of indecent liberties with a child are listed as Nov. 21, 2019, and May 16, 2022. Offense dates for the two counts of statutory rape of a child are listed as Nov. 19, 2019, and Nov. 21, 2019.

The detention center also lists a charge by the Pinehurst Police Department of communicating threats on May 4, 2022. Hardin’s bond for this charge is $50,000.

“This is an ongoing investigation between the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, the Pinehurst Police Department, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation,” said Fields.

Authorities did not release the age of the minor.

Hardin is due in court Wednesday, May 18, and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
