The Village of Pinehurst has once again been designated as the safest city in North Carolina.

Pinehurst took home the honors from the National Council for Home Safety and Security.  With almost 16,000 residents, Pinehurst had 6 violent crimes and 84 property crimes in the latest statistical year.

Police Chief Earl Phipps said in a press release, “Congratulations to the Pinehurst Police Department for ensuring that the Village of Pinehurst continues to be a safe place to live and work.”

While Pinehurst has been recognized as the safest city, Southern Pines was recognized as 23rd out of 59 cities.  Southern Pines had 69 violent crimes and 360 property crimes last year with a population of almost 14,000.  Elon and Holly Springs hold the number two and three spots.

Cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI, and cities with populations under 10,000 were removed from the list.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security is an association comprised of home security professionals whose goal is to further industry education and public knowledge about home safety and security.

Their annual safety rankings are based on calendar year 2017 crime statistics.
