Pinehurst Police and other members of Sandhills Region 6 Traffic Task Force held several traffic enforcement events in the Pinehurst area over the past few weeks. The efforts resulted in a total of 113 charges.

The 113 charges consisted of 64 for speeding (one as much as 89 in a 45), seven driving while license revoked, four possession of marijuana, four paraphernalia, seven no operators license, 16 expired registration, one no insurance, two window tint, two child seat violations, one overcrowded vehicle, one careless & reckless, three inspection violations and one warrant service.

One of the traffic operations was a driver checkpoint held on Morganton Road and also U.S. 15-501. Participating in this event were law enforcement from Pinehurst, Rockingham, Laurinburg, Foxfire, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Also participating were members of the District Attorney’s Office, the Magistrate’s Office, and the N.C. BAT Mobile, a large mobile breath-alcohol testing unit, used to increase the efficiency of on-site DWI processing.

The Sandhills Region 6 Traffic Task Force is part of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program and the Statewide Traffic Enforcement Program, and includes law enforcement agencies: Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Carthage, Vass, Whispering Pines, Foxfire, Cameron, Pinebluff, Robbins, Raeford, Laurinburg, Rockingham, Hamlet, Wadesboro, Polkton, Lilesville, Candor, Biscoe, Mt. Gilead, Misenheimer, Norwood, Seagrove. Also, members are the following sheriff’s departments: Moore, Scotland, Hoke, Richmond, Anson, Stanly, and Lee County.
