Woman fleeing scene arrested after ramming vehicle into patrol car

A Southern Pines Police Officer was uninjured following an auto accident when a suspect rammed her vehicle into the patrol car on Tuesday. The accident happened before 10 a.m. on Richards Street just inside the gate of Brookside Park Apartments.

Southern Pines Police Department said they arrested Aasia Atkins, 28, of Southern Pines and charged her with assault on a law enforcement officer, resist, delay and obstruct a public officer, careless and reckless driving, failure to reduce speed and driving while impaired.

The officer responded to the apartment complex for a reported public disturbance.

“Upon officer’s arrival, Aasia Andrea Atkins attempted to leave the scene by intentionally ramming her vehicle into the front of a Southern Pines Police Department patrol car,” said the police department in a news release.

The suspect was transported to Moore Regional Hospital.
