Police searching man shot at deputy

Police are searching for a man who they say shot at a deputy while he was being served arrest warrants on Sunday.

When Hoke County Deputies were serving warrants on Cortevin Jaquan Shaw, 29, he jumped from a vehicle and ran, said Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin on social media on Monday.

“When Hoke County Deputies located Cortevin Shaw he produced a firearm and fired several shots towards one of the Hoke County Deputies, who then returned fire,” said Peterkin. There were no injuries reported. Authorities did not state what part of Hoke County this occurred.

Shaw is currently at large. He is wanted for attempted first-degree murder, assault on law enforcement officer with a firearm, and resist, delay, and obstruct.

Peterkin said the public should not approach Shaw because he is armed and dangerous.

If you know Shaw’s whereabouts, please call 911 immediately.

UPDATE: On Dec. 23, detectives arrested the suspect at an address on Poe St. in Raeford with no resistance, according to Hoke County Sheriff’s Office. He was placed under a $2,154,000 secured bond.
