The man who escaped police custody at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital on October 9th has been captured.

Vinton John Huntley Nation, 28, of Southern Pines, was arrested on Thursday in Fayetteville by members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offenders Task Force (VOTF).

On October 9th, Nation was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital following his arrest because of a complained injury.  Nation escaped Southern Pines Police custody and fled on foot after discharge.  

The Southern Pines Police Department requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force (JFTF) out of Greensboro, NC in the apprehension of Nation.

Investigators spent countless hours attempting to locate Nation. Their efforts paid off when information was developed through investigative efforts that placed Nation at 4609 Turquoise Road in Fayetteville.

Thursday, authorities surrounded the residence. Residents of the address initially denied the presence of Nation. After a brief search, Nation was located in the attic of the residence trying to elude arrest.

Nation was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Jail where he is currently being held.

Southern Pines Police Department is charging Nation with the following: PWISD Cocaine, Felony Possession of Cocaine, PWIMSD MDA/MDMA, and felony Possession Schedule I CS.

In addition, Nation had outstanding warrants issued on October 15, 2016, for Failure to Appear on Rape/Sex Offense with a child under the age of six, Indecent Liberties with Minor, and Misdemeanor Sexual battery.

Vinton Nation’s last known address was on South Hardin Street in Southern Pines.
