Repeat offender facing several drug charges

A Vass man with a drug history was arrested Wednesday and faces six charges in Moore County district court on May 3.

James Cummings, 64, was jailed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $115,000 secured bond, announced Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields.

“On April 12, 2023, Deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop in the 4900 block of U.S. Highway 15/501 in Carthage,” said Fields. “During the traffic stop, Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. As a result of the search, Deputies located (58) grams of methamphetamine and items of drug paraphernalia.”

Cummings is facing charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, trafficking in methamphetamine by transport, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling place for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cummings and three others were arrested in March 2023 after a drug investigation in Vass. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling place for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In November 2021, Cummings was arrested following a Vass drug investigation. He was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession of heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling place for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a firearm by felon.

Defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
