Reservoir Park included in Ambient Lakes Monitoring Program

Reservoir Park is part of this year’s Ambient Lakes Monitoring Program (ALMP) led by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. ALMP inspections are routine and completed on a five-year rotating schedule across the state. Reservoir Park is one of about 160 lakes included in the ALMP rotation.

According to a news release from the Town of Southern Pines, park visitors may see staff from the department’s water resources division this summer. They will be on-site monthly from May to September to collect water samples. These samples will be tested to help track long-term trends and the levels of nutrients in the lake.

ALMP is part of the EPA’s Clean Lakes Program to track and protect public lakes. Two other lakes in Moore County are also monitored through ALMP: Pages Lake in Aberdeen Lake Park and Lake Luke Marion in Carthage.

The Division of Water Resources ensures the health and safety of our state’s lakes and other waters. They aim to prevent and control pollution, complete restoration, and educate the public on clean water. To learn more, visit sopinesnc.info/ALMP.
