A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close sections of North Poplar Street to through traffic from Elm Street to just north of Blues Crossing Lane beginning Monday.
Crews from Moffat Pipe Inc. will relocate the water and sewer lines on this 1.4-mile stretch and anticipate completing the operation in May of 2024.
A signed detour directs motorists around the closure, which will be in effect Monday through Friday.
All roads will be open for weekends and holidays.
Once a section of the road is completed, the contractor will open the completed section prior to closing the next.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use caution when approaching the work zone.
