Robbins begins smoke testing sewer lines to find possible defects

The Town of Robbins announced it has begun smoke testing all sanitary sewer lines to locate possible defects in the sewer system.

The work began on Aug. 15 and is scheduled to be completed in 15 weeks, according to Town Manager Clint Mack.

Visible smoke from vent stakes on houses, holes in the ground or on the streets is non-toxic, harmless, and is not a fire hazard, Mack said.

Smoke will not enter residents’ homes unless the plumbing is defective or has dried up drain traps. If smoke does enter your home, please contact a crew member working in your neighborhood.

The data collected from the test will point out needed improvements to the sewer system, and this may reduce operating costs, said Mack.
