The Town of Robbins Thursday introduced Lawson Thomas as their new police chief at their Town Council meeting.

Thomas was previously employed as an Alcohol Law Enforcement Special Officer. Additionally, he has served in Pinehurst and several other cities in North Carolina. Thomas has a master’s degree in criminal justice and public administration. He starts his new position on August 26.

Board member Brandon Phillips, who is a Taylortown Police Officer, stated “as a fellow police officer, I can attest we made a good hire.”

Thomas is replacing Robert Tew, who announced his resignation in June.

In other town council business, Town Manager David Lambert commented on the recent Farmers Day Celebration.

“Farmers Day was a great success with no criminal activity,” said Lambert. “The volunteers as well as the police and fire department did an amazing job.”

The Town also has several positions open including two in the Public Works Department and one police officer position. Lambert commented now that the new police chief has been hired, they should be able to start reviewing applicants for the position shortly.

Brandon Emory, who oversees code enforcement for the Town, reported on the ongoing efforts to force compliance from several chronic offenders.

These include Williams Tire & Auto, who has a history of violating town ordinances with stacks of used tires in front of their business. The Town has an expedited hearing scheduled to attempt to force a resolution, which could include levying fines of up to $500 a day.

Lambert previously tendered his resignation with an effective date of mid-August. The council, after a closed session, tendered a contract for him to continue in his role up to two months on an interim basis.
