The officer, whose name has not been released, was able to come to a stop approximately 30 yards from where the tree fell. He was able to get out of the vehicle.

“The officer is doing ok and had some lacerations on his head,” said Robbins Police Chief Haddock who was on scene. “It is believed he may have suffered a concussion.”

He was transported to Moore Regional Hospital by Moore County EMS for evaluation.

“You hear accidents all of the time, but when you hear that it’s one of your own, your gut turns,” Haddock said.

The car suffered extensive damage.

“If the officer or anyone would have been traveling east, it could have been a lot worse,” said a witness. “We’re glad that he will be ok.”

The tree reached across the road leaning on power lines. Duke Energy was called to evaluate the situation. Highway 24-27 was closed from Bethlehem Church Road to Kelly Plantation Road for an extended time.

Carthage Fire and Rescue, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. State Highway Patrol were also on scene.

Due to weather conditions, crews across the county responded to over a dozen accidents Friday.
