Instructor shortage impacting adult education and literacy

The Golden LEAF Foundation awarded Sandhills Community College a $680,000 grant to build a new facility providing students the opportunity to earn short-term training credentials for in-demand, high paying construction careers.

The 3,400 square foot facility will be built on the grounds of the Larry R. Caddell Public Safety Training Center in Carthage. Located on Niagara-Carthage Road, it will be a pre-engineered metal building housing two classrooms, two labs, and an open-air learning space. The completion date estimate is August 2021.

“As a result of this funding, we will be able to offer training in high demand construction careers with family sustainable wages in a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest tools trending in construction training,” said Andi Korte, vice president of Continuing Education and Workforce Development at Sandhills Community College.

Additional support from The William L. and Josephine B. Weiss Foundation, The Palmer Foundation, American Red Cross, and the Sandhills Community College Foundation brings the total project budget to $1.16M. This will ensure that SCC provides the training to meet the needs of our local business partners.
