Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields warns residents of a current scam circulating around the county.

In a Thursday news release, Fields said the sheriff’s office has received a number of complaints of a possible mail scam.

A letter, with a check, is being delivered that appears to come from the Publishers Clearing House, but Fields warns it is a scam.

“The Publishers Clearing House will never ask anyone to pay a fee to receive a prize and will not call ahead to say you have won a prize,” said Fields. “If you or someone you know receives a call to send money in order to collect a prize, hang up and report it to the Federal Trade Commission. You can report the information through their website at www.ftc.gov.”
