Sandhills Community College announces a Signing Day Celebration for the inaugural Sandhills Promise class on Thursday, June 22, at 6:45 p.m. in Dempsey Student Center.

“We already have 160 eligible applicants for the first class that will begin this fall,” announced Sandhills Promise Coordinator Jonathan Garrison. “We are inviting students to come to the college with their families to celebrate, receive a Sandhills Promise t-shirt, and sign a letter of intent.” Invitations for the event will soon mail to eligible students.

Moore and Hoke County residents that graduate from a public or private high school, or registered home school, having completed four dual enrollment courses at Sandhills, will pay no tuition or technology/activity fees at the college for the two years immediately following high school graduation. It can also include summer terms. Graduates must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and a 67% completion rate by the time of high school graduation.

For the program’s first year, only two dual enrollment courses are required of 2017 high school graduates.

Graduating high school seniors who meet eligibility requirements can still apply.

To enroll, apply to Sandhills as a degree-seeking student, fill out the SCC Scholarship Application and apply for financial aid at fafsa.gov. The links for the steps can are found on the college’s website. Students will later be sent information regarding Orientation. Applicants may have to come to campus and take a placement test.

The deadline for submitting applications and all required documentation is July 13. Late Sandhills Promise and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications will not be accepted after the deadline. The FAFSA requires certain documentation which can take time, so applicants are encouraged to begin the process immediately.
