Southern Middle students win 1st, 2nd place in leadership conference

Trenton Holcombe and Lauren Polkow took first and second place respectively in the SkillsUSA Job Skills Showcase for Middle School at the 2022 SkillsUSA Regional Leadership and Skills Conference in Fayetteville. They competed in the conference virtually, and they had to submit a resume, business plan, and job skill.

Both students put in hours after school, during club meetings, and at home on weekends to prepare for the conference. They worked closely with their advisor, Ms. Kay Rodriguez, to prepare for their showcases.

Students presented their job skills ideas and worked to demonstrate 21st-century work skills through their job showcases. Trenton presented an in-home engineering business, and Lauren presented a specialty bakery.

Both students work hard to achieve academically and through extracurricular activities available to them through Southern Middle School. They both plan to showcase their works in Funfest in April.
