Southern Pines appoints Robertson as new town clerk

The Southern Pines Town Council appointed a new town clerk, Beth Robertson, during its meeting on Feb. 2. Robertson has worked for the Town since January 2015 and was appointed deputy town clerk last spring. She has been serving as the interim town clerk since the position was vacated last fall.

In her role as town clerk, some of Robertson’s primary duties include updating and maintaining the Town Code, archiving the Town’s legislative history, administering oaths, and executing various Town documents. She also helps to ensure that business matters before the Town Council are conducted in accordance with the Town’s Charter and the North Carolina General Statutes. The town clerk is assigned to the administration department, so Robertson also works closely with the town manager and assistant town manager on other matters related to council business and the Town’s operations.

“I’m so pleased about Beth’s appointment as Southern Pines’ new Town Clerk,” notes Assistant Town Manager, Jessica Roth. “I have worked closely with Beth in her capacity as Deputy Clerk and then as Interim Town Clerk.

“There are many steps and intricacies in forwarding a business matter to the Town Council that the public rarely sees. They all require that one pay close attention to the Town’s Charter, Code of Ordinances, and the General Statutes to ensure they are processed correctly. Beth has demonstrated a great ability to easily learn and master these processes.

“She was also instrumental in the Town’s launch of CivicClerk late last year; the online agenda management platform has provided some great internal efficiencies and further professionalized the Town Clerk’s role in executing the Council agenda process.”

In addition to serving Southern Pines for seven years, Robertson brings extensive experience in government procurement and personnel administration from working for the state of California for 13 years. Robertson relocated to Moore County with her husband, Patrick, and daughter, Rory, in 2012 to be closer to family. The Robertson family is very involved in the Scottish Highland Games.

In commenting on her appointment, Robertson shares, “I am pleased to have been given this opportunity and have enjoyed the challenges of navigating a new position. I look forward to continuing to serve the Town to best of my capabilities.”

Robertson is located in the Town’s administration building at 125 SE Broad Street. She may be reached at 910-692-7021 or [email protected].
