This year’s Christmas parade and First Eve celebration held annually in Southern Pines have been canceled due to COVID-19. The organizer of the events, Southern Pines Business Association, announced the cancelations on its website.
The announcement comes on the heels of Carthage canceling its Christmas parade last week. The Carthage Board of Commissioners voted down this year’s Christmas parade due to coronavirus concerns and lack of participation.
The Town of Aberdeen has not announced its plans for their parade. A Downtown Christmas European Style Market was approved by Aberdeen Town Board this week to be held on Dec. 5 between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. The style is “more quaint and toned down commercially” than the American style, according to Aberdeen Town Manager Paul Sabiston and will be held at the Knight Street and Tarbell areas.
