Southern Pines considers new café in downtown

The Town of Southern Pines reviewed architectural plans for a new café at the July 6 agenda meeting.

The 1,954 square-foot retail café and restaurant will be at 600 SW Broad Street, repurposing the former Wells Fargo Bank building at the corner of SW Broad Street and West Wisconsin Avenue.

Plans for the new retail café and restaurant design are brick and stucco with nearly 80% windows and doors, and a pick-up window for orders.

PTCH, LLC General Manager Andy Bleggi said the planned brick and stucco matches the exterior of the existing building.

Bleggi will attend the Aug. 3 agenda meeting to continue the presentation.

The council reviewed plans for Discount Tire, a 7,680 square-foot building, at 10935 U.S. Highway 15-501, where Sandhills Urgent Care was previously located, that were compliant with the town’s general business zoning.

Civil Engineer Mr. Kelly Wagoner of Donaville Group, Inc. said Discount Tire was his favorite client because they worked to fit into each of the 1,000 towns where the company has stores.

Discount Tire will be a gray brick building with glass bay windows.

The council reviewed plans by Ubuntu Developer, LLC for a 7,000 square-foot multi-unit retail building on the corner of West Morganton and Brucewood roads.

Bleggi and representatives of Neal Smith Engineering answered questions on compliance.

Compliance concerns included the width of the proposed building, the building facing the parking lot instead of the street, and the exterior materials not including brick or wood.

The representatives said the metal exterior and composite materials reflect the elements of the modern industrial area.

Bleggi said the area used to be a dump site and is now cleaned.

Mayor Carol Haney said she did not see any brick to make it blend into the town’s look.

Bleggi said brick could be used in the lower part.

The council’s next business meeting is scheduled for July 12.
