SPPD members recognized for outstanding performance

A Southern Pines police officer was recently awarded two life-saving medals from the Southern Pines Police Department’s awards committee.

Officer Kirsten Czako received the medals for helping to save the lives of two people in January, according to a news release from the Southern Pines Police Department.

The first medal Czako received was for saving the life of a drug overdose victim on January 7.

“Officer Czako arrived on scene and located an unresponsive male with a weak pulse,” said the release. “Officer Czako assessed the situation, then administered a first dose of Narcan until EMS arrived on scene to further treat the patient. The patient regained a pulse and survived.”

The second medal was for saving a life by performing CPR on Jan. 29.

“Officer Czako responded to a medical assist call for service,” said the release. “Officer Czako arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male subject. Officer Czako assisted with live-saving measures (CPR) by performing chest compressions with fire department personnel until EMS arrived and took over live-saving measures.”
