SPPD conducting community survey

On July 2, the Southern Pines Police Department was notified that an officer assigned to the department’s Patrol Division has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Southern Pines Police Department currently has written directives and equipment in place to help identify and reduce the spread of COVID-19, both inside the police facility as well as in the community. As a result of scheduling, the officer had limited contact with the public and other employees prior to testing positive.

The Southern Pines Police Department will be cooperating with the appropriate health officials in order to identify, and notify, those individuals this officer may have had close contact with for a prolonged period of time.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) prevents the disclosure of the employee’s name. At this time, no additional information will be provided.

“Please keep this officer, and all “First Responders” in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to work with an unwavering dedication and commitment to their friends, family, co-workers and the communities they serve,” said Southern Pines Police Chief Bob Temme.
