Southern Pines woman celebrates her 102nd birthday

Annie Mae Hancock White celebrated her 102nd birthday in Southern Pines Saturday afternoon. Her birthday was a true celebration attended by numerous friends and family and was held on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Annie Mae Hancock White and her family and friends celebrate her 102nd birthday on March 19.

White was born on March 21, 1920, to Jim and Clara Hancock in Wadesboro. She was one of seven children and was raised with her niece, who was raised as a sister.

In 1924, her family moved to Southern Pines when she was 4 years old. She later attended West Southern Pines High School and graduated in 1938. She attended college for two years, then married O.D. White, and then went on to raise 11 children. 

During her working years, White was a housekeeper at Moore Memorial Hospital and worked her way up to dietary supervisor. 

She continues to reside in her home of 73 years and is a member of Crusade for Christ Community Church.
