Southern Pines Youth Rugby hosts jamboree

The Southern Pines Youth Rugby Club (SPYRC) recently hosted its first Youth Jamboree of the Spring for the North Carolina Youth Rugby Union.

The Town of Pinehurst welcomed rugby back onto the historic infield of their harness track. Rugby has not been played there in almost a decade.

The Southern Pines Youth Rugby Club has continued to grow thanks to its group of volunteer coaches and sponsors.

The jamboree consisted of 22 teams from six clubs across the state. Four of those teams were from the SPYRC.

In all, 22 matches were held on two fields, making for six hours of nonstop rugby. It was the first time playing for many of the players and the first time spectating for many of the families.

Check out their website www.https://www.southernpinesyouthrugby.com or social media pages for more details and upcoming events.

If you have a 4-18 year old interested in joining, they always welcome new players and no experience is necessary.
