fire department begin flushing testing hydrants

Firefighters in Southern Pines have begun fire hydrant testing Monday. This is completed every spring to meet state requirements, said Southern Pines Fire & Rescue in a statement.

Through testing, the fire department will “evaluate our fire flow, allows the water mains to be flushed to remove silt, and gives us the ability to verify that all hydrants are in working order.”

Fire crews will be performing the testing and inspections daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“Customers can expect discolored water during this time; however, water clarity should improve as crews move through your area,” said Southern Pines Fire & Rescue. “Please refrain from washing clothes until your water is clear.”

Some areas in Southern Pines will see flowing water from hydrants to improve water clarity.

Residents who are signed up for CODE RED alerts will receive a call or message notifying crews are in your neighborhood.

Please call the fire department at 910-692-2720 if you would like to sign up for CODE RED town messages or for any questions you may have, said the fire department.
