In county and conference rivals Union Pines and Pinecrest went head to head last week in basketball and wrestling. With this being the first year of the two schools being in the same conference, there was more on the line than the usual stakes of county rivals. In basketball, the boy’s and the girl’s teams were neck and neck in the conference standings. In wrestling, both schools went into the week undefeated in the conference.

Pinecrest Boys Basketball 11-4 (4-1)

A great matchup between two great teams as the Patriots traveled to Cameron on Wednesday to take on Union Pines Vikings. The Patriots were able to come out on top 61-55. The Patriots will have a tough test this week in conference play. 

Tuesday versus Richmond 15-0 at 7:30 p.m. conference game.

Friday at Southern Lee 1-12 at 7:30 p.m. conference play. 

Pinecrest Girls Basketball 9-4 (3-1)

The Lady Patriots also traveled to Cameron on Wednesday, and like the boys, they were also able to pull off a big 49-27 win. The ladies will be home two of their three conference games this week. 

Tuesday versus Richmond 11-4 at 6 p.m. conference game.

Thursday versus Lee County 2-10 at 6 p.m. conference game.

Friday at Southern Lee 3-9 at 12 p.m. conference game.

Pinecrest Wrestling 

Pinecrest wrestling was also able to bring home two more conference wins. They defeated Southern Lee 66-15 and cross-county rivals Union Pines 48-22. This places the Patriots 18-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference. 

Chase Godwin was able to pull off his 100th career win and was able to do so after missing most of his junior year due to a car accident. 

Union Pines Boys Basketball 14-3 (4-2)

Wednesday, the Vikings hosted Pinecrest and lost 61-45.

Friday, versus Scotland 4-9 at 7:30 p.m. conference game.

Union Pines Girls Basketball 9-8 (3-3)

Wednesday, the Vikings hosted Pinecrest and lost 49-27. 

Friday versus Scotland 10-3 at 6 p.m. conference game.

North Moore Boys Basketball 5-5 (2-2)

The Mustangs traveled to Jordan-Matthews on Wednesday for a conference match-up. The Mustangs were able to grab the win 53-48.

Tuesday versus Graham 3-8 at 7:30 p.m. conference game.

Friday at Bartlett Yancey 1-8 at 12 p.m. conference game.

North Moore Girls Basketball 1-8 (0-4)

The Lady Mustangs were defeated on the road 50-21 last Wednesday against conference rival Jordan-Matthews.

Tuesday versus Graham 3-7 at 6 p.m. conference game.

Friday at Bartlett Yancey at 6 p.m. conference game.

O’Neal Boys Basketball 9-6 (2-2)

O’Neal Swimming

“The Varsity Swim team had its final meet of the regular season Thursday night vs the Marlins of Moore Homeschool group,” said Coach Braze. “It was an amazing time honoring our seniors and some fast swims! The men won 80-68 and the women’s team lost their first meet of the season 82-68. Both teams had season-best times in their relays.

“The team saw stand-out swims from the Women’s 200 Medley Relay of Vicki York, Lauren Hobbs, Chloe Abner and Michaela Stone,  Men’s 400 Free Relay of John Shepherd, Henry Reibe, Jace Brown and Alex Grimshaw. In addition, Morgan Lewis had a lifetime best time in the 100 Free Style, Simeon Morin dropped 30 seconds in his 500 Free Style, Carson made his state cut in the 100 Free Style and Evan Williams dropped over 2 seconds in the 100 Back Stroke.

“The Falcons will use the next week for final preparations for the Tri-TAC Conference meet upcoming on Jan. 31.”

SCC Basketball 15-6 (4-0)

Thursday, against Lenoir CC, the Flyers won 94-78.

Wednesday at Central Carolina CC at 7 p.m. Conference game.

Friday at Montreal College at 6 p.m.

Sunday at Oxford College of Emory at 1 p.m. conference game.
