The Southern Pine Police Department is offering a women’s self-defense class.

The class is free of charge and will be held in the Southern Pines Police Department’s “C. Michael Haney Community Room” on June 14th from 6-8 pm.

The class will focus on teaching some basic self-defense techniques and how to properly apply those techniques in practical scenarios. Sgt. Brian Edwards and Lt. Robert Heaton will be the instructors for the class.

Sgt. Edwards is the Sergeant for the Investigations Division and is the fitness and wellness instructor for the department, as well as the Team Leader for the Special Response Team. Lt. Heaton is a Patrol Lieutenant and is the Commander for the department’s Special Response Team.

If you are interested in participating, please preregister by calling Administrative Technician Kelly Stevens at 910-692-2732 ext. 2851, between the hours of 9 am-2 pm Monday-Friday. If calling off hours, or if you get voicemail, please leave your name and phone number so that they can return your call.

Things you need to know about participating in the class:

– Participants need to be 18 years of age or older.

– Class size is limited to 20, so please call and register as soon as possible.

– Recommended clothing is athletic apparel (athletic pants are recommended).

– A waiver needs to be completed prior to participation in the class (waivers will be available at the class, so please arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete the waiver).
