Structure fire at Aberdeen Fabrics Friday night

Multiple agencies responded to a structure fire at Aberdeen Fabrics Friday evening. The fire was paged at 9:45 p.m. to the large warehouse and facility located at 11564 U.S. 15-501 South in Aberdeen.

There was some confusion when the call was first paged. Initially, fire crews were page to Kolcraft on Highway 211. The caller stated there were flames and smoke coming from a warehouse.

As the first fire units arrived on-scene at Kolcraft, they were unable to locate a fire. At that point, units were redirected to the address for Aberdeen Fabrics.

The caller was not from the area and gave the wrong highway. Aberdeen Fabrics is just down from the intersection of 211 and 15-501, and thus, the confusion on which highway it was located.

Units from Pinehurst were just coming over the bridge near the fire at Aberdeen Fabrics when the address was corrected, so they were first on-scene with other units arriving moments later.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find heavy flames coming out of the building on the front side facing the street. Flames could be seen pouring out of the front of the building almost as high as the roof.

Ladder trucks arrived and began setting up for an aerial attack as fire crews battled the fire on the ground. Aberdeen Police had immediately blocked off 15-501 from both directions to allow incoming units easy access to the scene. Firefighters announced the fire was under control 19 minutes after the first units arrived on the scene.

The fire was contained to the front part of the warehouse, which had suffered extensive damage in that area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. No injuries were reported.

Responding to the scene were fire units from Aberdeen, Pinebluff, Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Fort Bragg, Aberdeen Police, and Moore County EMS.
