One person was injured in a house fire on Longbrook Road just after 12 pm Sunday. The homeowner alerted the other occupants, and everyone got out safely, including a small child and almost all the pets.

The gentleman had some birds that belong to his wife that died last year, and he tried to open the door to get the birds when he was overcome by the smoke and fire. He was transported by EMS to Moore Regional Hospital.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, there was heavy smoke and flames showing from the residence. The home was at the end of a long dirt road, and there were no hydrants near the residence.

Multiple fire tankers trucked in water to fight the fire. Fort Bragg was also called and responded with two large tankers to provide water. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the family.  Authorities did not release the cause of the fire.

Responding to the scene were multiple fire departments, including Pinebluff, Aberdeen, Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Pine Hill, and Fort Bragg. Also responding were the Moore County Fire Marshal and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
