A student was arrested Thursday after making threats to North Moore High School.

The student made the threats to the school Wednesday evening through social media, said a news release from Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

“An unknown account, created through Instagram, showed disturbing images, quotes, and references to the school,” said the news release.  “Due to the disturbing nature of the account and the possible threat to our community, our schools, and our children, the incident was led by Sheriff Ronnie Fields and investigated by sheriff’s detectives.”

Screen shot of threat circulating on Instagram contributed from a Sandhills Sentinel reader.

The 17-year-old North Moore High School student, of Robbins, was charged with one count of felony communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property.

Detectives said, “At this time, no firearms are believed to have been accessible by the juvenile, and the case is still under investigation.”

This incident come on the heals of a shooting at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte that left two people dead and four injured Tuesday.

The student was placed under a $150,000 secured bond, has a May 30 court date and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
