The Sunday Scoop: Cameron Baptist Church

The Sunday Scoop is a series on churches in Moore County. The series covers the latest activities from Bible school to missions and everything in between. Welcome.

At a time when some small, community churches are failing, Cameron Baptist Church is growing with young members. Pastor Jared McNeill said the young members are looking for what they grew up with — teaching through the Bible because they crave traditional values.

“But we still have a mix of age groups,” McNeill said.

McNeill said the church emphasizes learning to defend beliefs to build smart Christians who can share the church motto of truth and love.

“We don’t compromise,” McNeill said about the Bible.

Sermons are dedicated to whole books of the Bible before moving on to another.

Worship services use a projector screen for music, and they have a guitar and amplifier, and McNeill said they would welcome a drum player.

Worship services are on Sundays at 11 a.m. Sunday school is at 10 a.m.

Pastor Jared McNeill of Cameron Baptist Church welcomes everyone on March 30, 2022, to attend services.

Sunday school attendance is where members get to practice what they preach by developing strong relationships in their classes. The end goal of Sunday school is to take well-equipped leaders to other churches because some are dying.

“I want to export faithful leaders to help those who need us. They are not our people, but God’s people,” McNeill said.

Ephesians 4:11, “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors, and teachers,” is the Bible verse McNeill said sums up the church.

“The next verse, Ephesians 4:12, about equipping the saints for work, describes my calling,” McNeill said. “All Christians are holy, are saints, to help others do ministry.”

Children in prekindergarten to fifth grade may attend M&Ms for music and messages on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Youth ages six to 12 may attend Wednesday lessons and activities at 7 p.m. The youth plan activities like community pancake suppers. The new youth pastor is Sarah Beard. She is teaching apologetics and helping with senior projects as part of the truth and love concept.

The two ladies’ groups are the Cameron Baptist Women and the Jesse Loving Circle, which has a mission focus.

The Cameron Baptist men are called “The Brotherhood,” and they do projects like building ramps, and cut trees, and host breakfasts.

A revival, titled Renewal Conference, will be held May 13-15 at 6 p.m. The revival is a group project with several churches and will be at Creekside Community Church on Nicholson Road in Cameron.

McNeill, 28, and single, began as a youth pastor in 2015 and has been the pastor for five years. He grew up in Robbins, calls Robbins home, and now lives in Cameron.
