Raise the Roof fundraiser brings local talent to Sunrise

Raising the Roof, a Sunrise Theater fundraiser and variety show featuring an eclectic mix of local talent, will celebrate its 20th anniversary March 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Twenty years ago, the historic Sunrise Theater was in dire need of financial support to repair a leaking roof. Faced with daunting repair costs, the future of the beloved theater was looking bleak. In typical Moore County fashion, the community rallied to support the Sunrise Theater with the first Raising the Roof musical fundraiser.

The annual event lived on and this year’s celebration features amazing local performers and musicians. Raising the Roof will include performances by Berryfield Acoustic Trio, one of the fastest rising regional Americana acoustic acts. The Trio’s distinctive take on traditional folk and bluegrass makes for a unique musical backdrop that is sure to liven the room and rattle the roof.

Singer, songwriter and pianist, William Nesmith, will also perform. Originally from Greensboro, Nesmith
quickly established himself as a regular in North Carolina’s musical scene, with his effervescent style
likened to those of Stevie Wonder, Sam Smith and Bruno Mars.

Momma Molasses returns to support the Sunrise this year. Her music is soul stirring and smothered in good old-fashioned folk sentiment. She blends Americana, Alt-Country, Piedmont Blues, Swing, Appalachian, and Bluegrass music into a uniquely timeless sound.

To add to the musical diversity of this year’s lineup, local Fayetteville resident and bagpiper, Douglas Elwell, will play and give a whole new meaning to power of the pipes.

Carolina Dance Works will wow the audience with a wide variety of dances including the Waltz, Tangos, and ChaCha.

Students from the Union Pines Drama Club will present their Shakespeare monologues and as always, a special appearance by this year’s Sardine Queen can be expected.

The lineup is not to be missed, so mark your calendars and prepare to raise a glass and raise some cash at Sunrise Theater’s Raising the Roof. VIP tickets are $20, general admission is $15. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm. The event is sponsored by Sweet Dreams Mattresses & More.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Sunrise Theater Box Office, online at SunriseTheater.com, or
by calling 910-692-3611.
